ABOUT HEALTHY TEXAS WEEK

APRIL 4 – 10, 2016

Healthy Texas Week, presented by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas, is an annual initiative of IT’S TIME TEXAS, an Austin-based non-profit dedicated to making healthy easier for Texans. During this week-long celebration, Texans were encouraged to Sweat more, Shop healthier, Serve their communities, and Pledge their support for a healthier Texas.

2016 Healthy Texas Week inspired entire communities to be healthier. Individuals, schools, businesses, families, community organizations, and faith-based organizations all played a huge role in making their communities the healthiest they can be!

The Texas Legislature officially recognizes Healthy Texas Week as the second week of April. This year, Healthy Texas Week was April 4-10!

FAQS

Can I still participate in Healthy Texas Week?
We hope you’ll continue working to live healthy, productive lives everyday, but Healthy Texas Week 2016 is officially over. Don’t worry, though! We’ll do it again next year!

Are you still giving away prizes?

Unfortunately, we gave away the last Healthy Texas Week prize Sunday April, 10th. There will be more prizes next year so be sure to keep up with IT’S TIME TEXAS for all the updates.

Why did I have to include #HTW2016 in my posts?
The official hashtag is how IT’S TIME TEXAS tracked impact of Healthy Texas Week through social media. By using #HTW2016 you are not only showing your commitment to healthy living but encouraging others to join. The hashtag is also how were entered into the daily drawings.

What were the prizes?
IT’S TIME TEXAS gave a way a wide variety of prizes. From gift cards and a FitBit to a Woom bike and healthy snacks. There was something for everyone, regardless of fitness level!

How were prize recipients determined?
All prize recipients were selected at random. Online pledge submissions, and social media participants who used the #HTW2016 hashtag were entered into a daily drawing. Winners were announced the following day via all IT’S TIME TEXAS social media outlets. The winners were also notified throughout the week and announced on the IT’S TIME TEXAS social media.

How did schools participate?
Healthy Texas Week is a time to celebrate and promote healthy living within the school community. To help, we’ve provided free healthy messaging (elementary & secondary), and encourage educators to download the Teach Healthier Mobile app, which is available for free in for iPhone and Android users.

I cook my meals at home and only go grocery shopping once a week. Is there a way to log my nutrition activity for Healthy Texas Week?
Grocery shopping falls under the Shop category. While we applaud your efforts with preparing meals at home, one of the goals of Healthy Texas Week is to encourage healthy choices while out shopping. Examples include purchasing water or unsweetened tea instead of a sugar-sweetened beverage while running errands or celebrating your health by dining at one of the restaurants who are running a Healthy Texas Week giveback promotion. The Shop category is not limited to food choices. Any shopping that you do which contributes to a healthy lifestyle can be counted!

Why is Serve a category for Healthy Texas Week?
Helping others offers a way to give back to your community and encourage those you interact with to make healthy choices.
